Bookmarks in Wikis. More poodle angst.

Something I just realized about the Tao of Mac paradigm is that Rui’s site doesn’t just function as a wiki+blog, it also is a bookmark system, arranged by topic. For example, this page with its map-related ‘Resources,’ automated links by initial title word, and ‘See Also’ links. Most interesting…
I wonder how this might function within the betagged world.
Well, still no firm decision about the dog even after a fairly emotional, mostly not-dog-related conversation this morning with Denyse. :) I’m glad we talked, as is she, but still no decision. We are going to keep that appointment to meet the poodle up at the breeder’s, which I expect will result in our bringing him home. Which is rather exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time.
What is this site?
Well, first and foremost, it is my Wiki — a heavily customized version of PhpWiki where I jot down some technical notes and (of course) my bookmarks and topics of interest. No big articles, no in-depth discussions. Just a digital scrapbook on steroids with a lot of notes (both technical and related to the telecomms market), short (and hopefully efficient) articles and the odd opinion.
Why a Wiki?
Because it’s better than a traditional weblog. It has built-in versioning, allows for easier hyperlinking, makes it easier to jot down down notes on interrelated concepts and (with a few enhancements like the SeeAlso plugin I wrote) makes it easier to find related items even if you don’t know all the relationships.
