Back on Hawai’i time, at least for tonight.
Taking a deep breath on the writing front. Giving myself permission to give the background material some breadth, which is good.
Would I be better served with a web browser-based wiki for these documents?
If I went with something like Wikka Wakka Wiki or other existing solution, I could move to it right away (though with the need to redo all the vdoc pages), but would be 1) at the mercy of the developers and 2) stuck with a bit of overkill in terms of what features I need.
The other option would be to speed up development of Notanda, or at least get the bare bones done. But if I wanted that, I would stick with VoodooPad. :)
Why move off VoodooPad?
- Cost of full version to get particular features
- Data lock-in (in current form)
- Single or few developers
- Closed source
- Scripting inaccessibility
Yet another option, though less than ideal, would be to rewrite Wikka Wakka Wiki to get it to do what I want it to and then contribute the code back. Feh. Though the idea has its appeal, if I’m going to be spending time coding in the near future, it should be on my own project if I’m going to be losing writing time in the process. Bah.
For now I’m going to do some research into Wikka Wakka Wiki’s data structure and see what I can crib design-idea-wise.
But for now, off to bed.
Started making a list of things to do when the clocks change. What I have so far:
- Change smoke alarm batteries
- Earthquake Preparedness Kits
- Check Spare Tire Pressure
Stuff needed for dog license:
- rabies certificate
- certification of sterilization
License is good for one year.
I sure love doing backups. :-p
