Well, it’s finally here. On March 12th last year I posted the original idea, “Alien vs Predator movie marathon”. With the realization that trying to do a combination would require committing to watching at least eight movies (plus more, perhaps, if more AvPs come out), I decided to hold it to just the Alienses.
Speaking of Alienses, I wish they had the episode online of Sigourney Weaver appearing on Saturday Night Live around the time of the second movie. They did a very funny Aliens sketch, titled “Alienses,” which I don’t think I’ve seen since. (The famous “Chopping Broccoli” was from that same episode.)
The marathon will be starting up in a little while — need some breakfast and caffeine. This page will function as a hub, with links to posts on the individual movies as they are finished (time is when each blog entry is posted, after each film is complete):
- 16:59: Alien (1979)
- 21:11: Aliens (1986)
- 01:00: Alien 3 (1992)
- 03:48: Alien Resurrection (1997)
Why May 25th for this marathon? It marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Alien, the first movie in the quadrilogy. I never saw that in the theaters (I was ten at the time), but saw the second one a bunch of times there. I’ve seen all four movies numerous times on DVD and cable, except for the fourth which I only saw in the theater — once, if I recall correctly. We’ll see if it improved any with the distance of 12 years. ;)
While we’re at it, Happy Memorial Day, Happy Towel Day, and Happy Star Wars Day (the real one ;).
Previously in Celsius1414 movie marathons:
- Star Wars 30th Anniversary Marathon (May 25, 2007)
- Kill Bill 5th Anniversary Mini-Marathon (October 1, 2008)
- The Matrix 10th Anniversary Marathon (March 31, 2009)
Next in the marathon schedule? The 25th anniversary of the first Terminator movie is October 26th this year. I thought I’d do the first three movies. Terminator Salvation, released just now, is reportedly the first of a new trilogy, so I’ll wait a decade or two to do the full-blown Terminator saga.
