Albert Camus

Many of my favorite writers, I realized some years ago, had an anti-totalitarianism connection of some sort; my favorite philosopher is no exception.

I would have respected Albert Camus for his political views alone, but he was also a fine writer and a thinker whose ideas resonate with me like few others. Whether the explorations in his fiction or in his essays, Camus took apart the falsity of a life without imagination, the cowardice of nihilism, and the limits of the state and other institutions.

You will never be happy if you keep searching for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you keep looking for the meaning of life without living it.
