The name is, naturally, an allusive tribute to one of Mr. Bradbury’s famous stories.
“Celsius” was the surname of Anders Celsius, an 18th century astronomer. Celsius came up with the system in 1742. It was known as “Centigrade” until 1948, when it was renamed in his honor. (Compare Gabriel Fahrenheit.)
