66ers win 2006 California League Championship!

Inland Empire 66ers baseball team logo Lost amid all the sturm und drang of the big leagues, and all but forgotten by me after last night’s craziness, the Inland Empire 66ers pulled out a win over the Visalia Oaks to capture the California League Championship. Hans and I went to Game 3 last Saturday night, which the Sixers lost, taking them to a precarious 2-1 deficit in the best-of-five series. But they held on to win, bringing home the trophy to match the first-half championship they also won this summer.

I can’t help but think back to the beginning of the season when Alex, Hans, and I got opening night tickets in the front row, only to have the game called on account of rain just after the Anthem. It’s the first sheet in my scorebook from this year, left mostly blank in remembrance. And while I would have loved to be there at the winning moment last night, I think I’ll not be regretting it too much thanks to the Dodgers. ;)

A small bit of coincidence, Michael Garciaparra (Nomar’s younger brother) played for the Sixers up until last year. He’s made it to the AA San Antonio Missions, and is currently with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers.

Anyhow, congrats to the Sixty-Sixers. I’m definitely hoping to make opening day again next year, and hoping for no rain that night too.
