Ow, my knee hurts

The above isn’t a picture of the inside of my knee. However, it may look something like that at the moment. According to my doctor’s conclusion yesterday, I might have a partial tear of the meniscus. Not precisely sure how I got it, but the knee was getting progressively worse the last few days, swelling alternating with scraping sensations and lovely pain. The likely cause was a fall on our steps a week and a half ago, though at the time my back seemed to be the only mild casualty of that particular pirouette.

Anyhow, I’ll be getting an MRI of the knee soon, hopefully next week, to see what’s really going on. If it is a meniscus thing, I might be making an ortho appointment for some arthroscopic surgery. And hopefully some cool, blog-able pictures. :)

Meanwhile, it’s walking with a brace and occasionally a cane, along with copious Ibuprofen and RICE.

And I learn from that last link that there is a new (to me) variation on the old RICE acronym: “HI-RICE,” which is Hydration, Ibuprofen, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. That’s the one for me! ;)
