Starship Troopers Board Game

Starship Troopers Board Game cover I was up late last night reading and watching baseball replays when I happened across the 1997 Starship Troopers movie, the edited-for-TV version cutting out the nudity and worst bug-on-human violence — human-on-bug violence, naturally, was perfectly fine. Imagine the outcry if they showed a graphic representation of a bug cutting off some human dude’s most treasured appendage. Of course, if Denise Richards does it to a brain bug, the theater cheers. ;)

Anyhow, I really dig the movie — I actually have the DVD of it — but I was wanting to check back on baseball, so kept watching the expurgated flick to the end. Trippy to think it will be 10 years old next year. It’s held up well, considering; perhaps a product of its use of timeless military-propaganda motifs.

In a nice case of free association during the movie, I suddenly remembered the old Avalon Hill board game of Starship Troopers that I played over and over back in the day. And thanks to the Interweb, I can indulge in a bit of nostalgia by checking out all the old-school awesomeness as if I had a photographic memory.

Sometimes I really miss those old board games…but then I remember having to clean up the hundreds of cardboard units and come to my senses. ;)
