Disabled list not disabling

You know, when you have this kind of disabled list and are still doing pretty okay…well, it sure helps to lessen those hopeless feelings Dodgers fans have become accustomed to in recent years:

PLAYER DATE STATUS INJURY
------ ---- ------ ------
B. Mueller 3B May 12 15-day Sore right knee, out 4-5 weeks
J. Repko CF/LF May 10 15-day Sprained left ankle
D. Navarro C May 5 15-day Bruised right wrist
R. Ledee LF May 2 15-day Strained left groin - out 3-4 weeks
Y. Brazoban RP Apr 13 60-day Right elbow surgery - out for season
J. Werth RF/LF Apr 1 60-day Recovery from left wrist surgery
E. Gagne RP Apr 1 15-day Right elbow surgery - out 6-8 weeks
C. Izturis SS Mar 28 15-day Recovery from right elbow surgery

Having the kids in place to step in, without bringing them up too quickly, sure seems to have worked out well.

On the subject of our new team — our new era, really, no pun intended — Jeff Kent had this to say in Bill Plaschke’s latest opus, “Boys in Blue Pump Up on the Orange Crush”:

“I said [to management in the off-season] all I wanted was a workmanlike team, the kind of team that comes out and puts in a good day’s work every day, the kind that just plays,” he said. “Nobody getting real up or down. Everyone just playing.”

And?

“And that’s exactly what we have, a workmanlike team,” he said. “We’re not going to roll over anybody, but we’re going to play hard, and we’re going to do it for six months.”

Finally, somebody pointed out yesterday that rookie Andre Ethier, who we got in trade for both Milton Bradley and Antonio Perez, has as many homers (3) as Milton does in 2006. Granted, Milton is on the DL at the moment (surprise, surprise), but Andre has had 16 games to Milton’s 21. Not to mention Andre’s .882 OPS versus Milton’s .779.

Go Blue!
