Minor League, Umps reach agreement (for reals)
Apparently it’s for real this time: MiLB, striking umps reach agreement
The season-long Minor League umpires strike will soon be coming to an end after a six-year collective bargaining agreement was ratified on Tuesday.
The members of the Association of Minor League Umpires had been on strike since the season began on April 6. They are expected to be back to work on or before June 12 at the latest with their respective leagues being responsible for working out the particulars of their return.
The two sides had previously agreed to a new contract on April 27, but the union rejected the plan by a 2-1 vote four days later. But talks resumed last week with a federal mediator helping the two sides come to an agreement. The new agreement calls for a $100-a-month across the board salary increase as well as in per diem — roughly $90 a month — beginning this season.
