A utopian transit vision for San Bernardino

Brings a tear to my eye, this article in the Sun: “Morris has high hopes for San Bernardino as major transit hub”.

Mayor Pat Morris wants to send his city “back to the future” and he wants the trip to be via bullet train, high-speed bus, Metrolink and ultra-sleek light rail.

“We have always been known as a transportation leader but largely about cargo,” Morris said. “We are a natural crossroads.”

To that end, Morris has outlined a vision for the city to become the ultimate transportation nexus.

The long-rumored and discussed light rail from Redlands is especially dear to my heart, but I’ll believe it when I can board the train. :) Still, some inspired ideas from Mayor Morris, including possible rail or cable links to Big Bear and the other mountain communities that I hadn’t seen before. Seems like that would be perfect during the winter skiing season.
