The US Women’s team dominated the game versus Colombia, leaving little or no doubt of their prowess in a 3-0 shellacking earlier today. The victory ensures them a spot in the quarter finals.
Next game for the USA is versus Sweden on Tuesday.
The Team USA women beat the North Koreans today in the first game of their FIFA Women’s World Cup drive, 2-0, to take the lead in Group C (Sweden beat Colombia 1-0, so USA is head on goal differential at the moment).
Thought for sure the USA had something in hand after going up 2-0, but with the injury to (and muddled defending after Bradley shuffled things on the back line to compensate), things just fell apart. Give credit to Team Mexico — they held in, then rode a wave of emotion from the crowd to victory. Congratulations to them, and I look forward to rooting for Mexico in the Confederations Cup in 2013!

Now, thanks to the wide world of soccer/football/futbol, the FIFA Women’s World Cup began yesterday in Germany. Team USA is in Group C, along with North Korea, Colombia, and Sweden. The first match is against the People’s Republic, and is tomorrow.
Dresden gets its first taste of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011™ action this Tuesday with a mouthwatering opening fixture. USA take on Korea DPR, the fourth time the two women’s football heavyweights will have met in the group stages of the competition. Unsurprisingly, the Stars and Stripes are determined to begin their charge for a third world title with victory against their Asian counterparts, who are yet to beat the reigning Olympic champions on the biggest stage.
