Kraftwerk

Cycling Songs

In celebration of having two, count ‘em two flat tubes thanks to roving gangs of vicious goathead thorns terrorizing the countryside back in March 2004, I offered up this short list of songs about bicycles. There are undoubtedly others. Know of any I’ve missed?

While you’re thinking about it, I’m going to go buy some Slime and a couple of Kevlar tubes. :)

Señor Coconut

globalvillageidiot.net on Señor Coconut:

German machine music pioneers Kraftwerk go cha-cha? It’s not as unlikely a combination as it might sound, especially to Chile’s Señor Coconut, who has just released El Baile Aleman, which is nothing other than a set of Kraftwerk tunes gone Latin, performed as cumbias, merengues, and, of course, cha-cha-chas.

Update

Skippy, bless his heart, has pointed out that there is a Free Music Download of Señor Coconut’s rendition of ‘Showroom Dummies’ at Amazon. Here’s the Amazon Review:

Uwe Schmidt has taken the DIY techno trip of releasing myriad recordings under multiple identities to extremes, releasing CDs as Atom Heart, Geez ‘n’ Gosh, and now Señor Coconut. Since relocating to Chile in 1997, Schmidt has clearly let the flavor of his adopted country seep into his music. Case in point: Señor Coconut’s El Baile Alemán, a brilliant Kraftwerk tribute that drives the autobahn straight to the heart of Latin America. Check out Señor Coconut’s ingenious, sleepy take on “Showroom Dummies.”

Kraftwerk is some of my favorite music ever. Señor Coconut’s version is what my family refers to as an Ear Worm: a song or melody you can’t get out of your head.
