Text Editors are a dime a dozen

Text editors are a dime a dozen. They are the second program that beginning programmers do after “HelloWorld.”

Good ones, however, worthwhile ones, are relatively rare. Since I spend the vast majority of my time editing various text files, I’ll be reviewing various text editing programs, which are a distinct breed from word processors — check out Why Plaintext? for why that’s a good thing, and the text_editors tag for various reviews.

I use most of these programs on a regular basis, “trying on” each like a change of clothes to see what fits. Naturally, what I’ve found is that each has its strengths and weaknesses; like any good worker, though, you’ll do better to have a selection of tools on hand rather than one omni-tool that does everything and does none of it really well.
